Who We Are

The-Happy-Manager.com is owned and operated by Apex Leadership Ltd, a company registered in the United Kingdom. The business is run by Phil Higson, who is currently based in South Australia. While Apex Leadership Ltd remains UK-registered, the day-to-day operation of this website, including content creation and data handling, is managed from Australia.

If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, you can contact us via our Contact page.

What Personal Data We Collect

We collect personal data in the following ways:

Newsletter sign-up. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your name and email address via Campaign Monitor. We use this to send you our free guide and periodic updates. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.

Contact form enquiries. If you contact us, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message, in order to respond to you.

Automatically collected data. Like most websites, we automatically collect some non-identifying information such as browser type, device type, pages visited, and time spent on the site, via cookies and analytics tools (see below).

Legal Basis for Processing (UK/EU Visitors)

Where UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Consent — for newsletter sign-up and non-essential cookies.
  • Legitimate interests — for basic site analytics and spam prevention.
  • Contract/pre-contract steps — for responding to enquiries you initiate.

You can withdraw consent at any time; this won’t affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

Cookies and Third-Party Services

We use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:

  • Essential cookies — required for the site to function correctly.
  • Analytics — we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site (anonymised/aggregated where possible).
  • Advertising — we use Google AdSense, which may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising through Google’s Ads Settings.
  • Sponsored content — some blog posts on this site are sponsored. Sponsored posts are clearly marked as such. Sponsoring third parties do not receive personal data about our visitors as a result of a sponsorship arrangement.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking cookies may affect site functionality. See https://www.aboutcookies.org/ for general guidance.

Embedded Content

Video embeds found or used on this site (for example, YouTube videos) behave in exactly the same way as if you had visited the other website directly. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content.

Spam Prevention

Comments are currently closed on this site. Any automated comment submission attempts (including spam) may be processed by an automated spam-filtering service for security purposes.

International Data Transfers

Because Apex Leadership Ltd is UK-registered but the website is operated from Australia, and we use US-based service providers (such as Google), your data may be processed outside your home country. Where this involves transferring personal data out of the UK or EEA, we rely on the relevant service providers’ standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.

How Long We Keep Your Data

  • Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe.
  • Contact form enquiries are kept for as long as reasonably necessary to resolve your enquiry, then deleted or archived.
  • Comment data is kept indefinitely unless you request removal, to preserve the integrity of public discussion threads.

Your Rights

If you are in the UK or EU, under GDPR you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; request correction or deletion; restrict or object to processing; request data portability; and lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, or your local EU supervisory authority.

If you are in Australia, we handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) so far as they apply to our operations. You may request access to or correction of personal information we hold about you, and you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

If you are in the US (e.g. California), you may have rights under applicable state privacy laws to know what personal information is collected, request deletion, and opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us via our Contact page.

Children’s Privacy

This website is directed to adults and is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be indicated on this page along with an updated “Last updated” date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
